The force is yet to comment on the ongoing situation, but eyewitnesses have said that the man in question has been found on top of a building’s roof on St Mary’s Road.

This incident just comes days after another heavy police presence incident on the very same street of Cowley Road.

At around 10.20pm on Monday night (January 26), a total of six Thames Valley Police cars, an ambulance and a critical care unit all responded to the incident outside the Sainsbury’s Local store on Cowley Road.

With the public ushered away from the scene, an injured man could be seen receiving medical care on the ground.

It was later confirmed by TVP that a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of three offences.

These included common assault and the possession of a Class A drug, as well as the assault of a police officer.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We received a report of an assault just before 10.20pm yesterday (26/1) on Cowley Road.

“It was reported that a man had been assaulted outside Sainsbury’s, and this victim was not injured in the incident.

“He remains in custody at this time, and the incident number is 43260042601.”

TVP later confirmed that the assault on an emergency worker was on one of their own, as a spokesperson added: “The assault was on a police officer.”

An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I saw around six police cars, one critical care unit vehicle and one ambulance

“The victim was on the floor and sounded like he was in lots of pain, surrounded by lots of police, while the medical crews were trying to treat him on the scene.

“I would strongly recommend more policing on Cowley Road, especially in the evenings and at night.”

On Tuesday, Sainsbury’s confirmed that the incident occurred outside the shop and that it is now open as usual today (Tuesday, January 27).

A spokesperson for the supermarket chain said: “Emergency services attended an incident outside our Oxford Cowley Road Local on Monday night, and our store is open as usual.”
