Ravens to hire Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator: Source

Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter has chosen Declan Doyle to lead his offense.

According to a league source, Doyle, the Chicago Bears’ 29-year-old offensive coordinator, accepted the job after meeting Friday with Minter and other Ravens officials at the Under Armour Performance Center. Doyle has one year of offensive coordinator experience, though it was in a non-play-calling capacity under first-year Bears head coach Ben Johnson.

Minter’s biggest hire to date is a bold move. Doyle, the youngest offensive coordinator in the NFL, has just seven years of coaching experience unless you count the three seasons he spent as a student assistant at Iowa. In Baltimore, he’ll be entrusted to lead an offense that features two-time league MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and future Hall of Fame running back Derrick Henry.

Doyle reportedly pulled out of the running earlier this week for the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator job. But the Ravens, who were considering a number of options, including Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase, Denver Broncos pass game coordinator Davis Webb, Detroit Lions wide receivers coach and assistant head coach Scottie Montgomery and former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, were able to get the deal done.

Given Minter’s background and the fact that he’ll call the defense, the organization’s hiring at offensive coordinator was always going to be scrutinized on a level just below the decision on who would replace longtime head coach John Harbaugh. In three seasons under ex-Baltimore offensive coordinator Todd Monken, now the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Jackson won one MVP award and finished second to Buffalo’s Josh Allen in the race for another.

However, the Ravens’ offense regressed in 2025. Jackson dealt with numerous injuries, and the offense never found the necessary consistency after a hot start.

At his introductory news conference Thursday, Minter talked about the importance of “connecting” with Jackson and “helping him become the best version of himself.” That challenge will now fall partly on Doyle.

Johnson, considered one of the league’s top young offensive minds and innovative play callers, was widely praised for his work with quarterback Caleb Williams, who made a significant leap forward in Year 2. Doyle played a key role in that development, led offensive meetings and helped develop game plans.

His previous bosses, including Johnson and Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton, have repeatedly praised his intelligence, organizational skills and creativity.

The son of former Iowa strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle, Declan Doyle worked as a student assistant for the Iowa football program from 2016 to 2018. He was hired in 2019 by Payton, then the New Orleans Saints’ head coach, to be an offensive assistant. He spent four seasons in New Orleans before reuniting with Payton in 2023 as the Broncos’ tight ends coach.

Doyle was with the Broncos for two years when Johnson hired him to be his offensive coordinator ahead of the 2025 season.
