New Buffalo Bills HC Joe Brady: Justin Jefferson says coach made him first-round pick

All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson is excited for his former coach, Joe Brady.
The Minnesota Vikings star was asked about Brady landing the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching job in an interview with USA Today’s Sports Seriously podcast. Jefferson gushed about Brady, even crediting him with developing him into a first-round pick when the two were together at LSU.
Jefferson credited Brady for the job he did as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator before discussing how much fun the two had together at LSU.
“He’s already been doing a phenomenal job behind the scenes. Of course, the TV crew will show him in the box calling the plays and stuff,” Jefferson said. “… He’s a great coach. Having him as my offensive coordinator [at LSU] my 2019 year, we had so much fun together just building and working on our craft.”
Brady’s actual title at LSU was passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. Regardless of title, Jefferson feels that Brady was mostly the reason why he became a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
“I feel like he was mostly the reason why I got picked first round,” Jefferson added. “He’s the reason why my hands got better, why a lot of things occurred during that season, so I’m just proud of him to go from the (New Orleans) Saints to LSU and now he’s back in the league and about to be a head coach.”
He added that he’s excited to see how Brady carries the offense to new heights.
“So, it’s a blessing — it’s honestly just crazy to see the change over the past six years. I’m happy for him, I’m happy to see the different things he’ll do, especially, of course, with Josh Allen at quarterback. I’m excited to see how he carries that team.”
Bills fans, of course, would love to see Jefferson reunite with Brady in Buffalo. It’s not likely, however, with the Minnesota Vikings having a $46.5 million dead cap hit if they traded their star receiver pre-June 1.
Never say never, but Jefferson will likely be excited for his former coach from afar.
