2 longtime retailers expected to close stores at West Acres

FARGO — Two retailers are expected to close at the West Acres Shopping Center in the near future.
While closing dates have not been announced, West Acres COO Alissa Adams confirmed Thursday, Jan. 29, that Eddie Bauer and Francesca’s are both currently holding going-out-of-business sales.
Adams released the following statement regarding the closures:
“Change is a healthy constant in the retail industry and something we’re very familiar with. Store transitions are a normal part of our environment and are not a reflection of the vibrancy or strength of West Acres, but rather the evolving needs of customers or challenges brands may face at a national level. While it’s always disappointing to see a store leave, these moments also create opportunities for fresh, exciting concepts that better serve our guests and community.
“Behind the scenes, our leasing team is actively working on new opportunities. We’re also looking ahead to some exciting store announcements likely later this spring and can’t wait to share more when the time is right,” read the statement.
News about Francesca’s plans to close its stores began circulating in early January. According to Retail Dive, the women’s clothing and accessories chain plans to permanently cease operations following a “periodic progression” of store closures and layoffs based on a Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act document filed in Texas.
