Trail Blazers lose player to season-ending injury
The Portland Trail Blazers have lost a backup big man for the rest of the season.
Duop Reath underwent surgery Thursday morning to repair a stress fracture in his right foot, the team announced, and he’s expected to be sidelined for the rest of 2025-26.
Reath has played sparingly this season for the injury-ravaged Blazers, averaging 2.9 points, 1.2 rebounds and 8.1 minutes in 32 games this season. But the team values his ability to stretch the floor — Reath is shooting 42% from three-point range — his work ethic and his beloved presence in the locker room.
The 29-year-old has not played since Jan. 18, when the Blazers defeated the Sacramento Kings on the road, because of what the team originally labeled foot soreness. But subsequent medical testing revealed the fracture and Reath underwent surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
The team called it a “success” in a release, adding that Reath is expected to make a full recovery.
He is the latest Blazers player to suffer an injury in a season that has been defined by them. Thirteen different Blazers players have missed a combined 225 games due to injury or illness.
The Blazers (22-24) visit the New York Knicks at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
