Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark got an up-close look Sunday night at a player she wants to emulate: Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The third-year WNBA player joined NBC’s “Basketball Night in America” crew for pregame coverage of a Lakers-New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.

Why Doncic?

“I think the way he can not only score the ball, but also the way he passes,” she said. “I think the thing about him is, he’s not the fastest, he’s not the most athletic, but he can get his defender to move, and he takes up that space. He does a really good job of either keeping the defender behind him or keeping him to the side.”

Doncic leads the NBA with a 33.7-point scoring average and is second with 8.8 assists per game. In essentially 1 ⅟₂ WNBA seasons (she missed much of 2025 due to injury), Clark has averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 assists.

“I think that’s something I certainly can learn from,” Clark said. “I always kind of want to run away from the defense rather than absorbing the contact.”
