Taylor Swift was not at the 2026 Grammys. What happened?

Shake it off, Swifties: There’s a good reason for Taylor Swift to skip the 2026 Grammy Awards.
She had no releases during the Aug. 31, 2024, to Aug. 30, 2025, eligibility window. Since her twelfth album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” arrived Oct. 3, the timing shifts her next potential nominations run to the 2027 Grammys.
Swift, now the youngest woman ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, has long been one of the Recording Academy’s defining figures.
In 2025, she earned six nominations for “The Tortured Poets Department” but did not win in any category. She presented best country album to Beyoncé and referenced her own 2010 win in the same category, saying she would “never forget standing here, right on this spot” when she accepted that award.
Her history with the Grammys includes 14 wins and 58 nominations.
She became the first artist to win album of the year four times, earning the honor for “Fearless,” “1989,” “Folklore” and “Midnights.” In her 2024 acceptance speech for album of the year, Swift said, “I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song, or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love, or when I’m shot listing a music video or when I’m rehearsing with my dancers or my band.”
Swift has collected wins across country, pop and visual media categories, including best country album and best country song for “Fearless,” best pop vocal album and album of the year for “1989,” best song written for visual media for “Safe & Sound,” and best music video for “All Too Well: The Short Film.”
Her comments over the years have emphasized gratitude for collaborators and fans. When “Folklore” won album of the year in 2021, she thanked listeners for meeting her “in this imaginary world” she created. Co-producer Aaron Dessner called her “one of the greatest living songwriters” during the same broadcast.
