Report: Canadian international Cyle Larin set to join Southampton

Another Canadian might be heading to the EFL Championship.
Canadian national team striker Cyle Larin is set to complete a transfer from Mallorca to Southampton, Jack Rosser of The Sun reported Sunday.
The Brampton, Ont. native has spent the last two and a half years with the La Liga club but is currently on loan at Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he has played eight games this season. With Mallorca, Larin made 67 appearances, scoring 10 times and recording four assists.
While Larin reportedly had interest from Italy, Spain, France and Greece, he is believed to have chosen the Saints in order to maximize his playing time in preparation for the World Cup in June.
Since making his debut in 2014, he has collected 87 caps for Canada and has scored 30 goals, the second most in the country’s history.
The transfer would see the 30-year-old Larin follow in the footsteps of his international teammate Ali Ahmed, who joined fellow EFL Championship side Norwich City earlier this year from the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Southampton is 14th in the league, seven points from a play-off spot and 11 clear of relegation. Its next game will be Saturday against Watford where Larin could potentially make his debut if the deal has been finalized.
