2 in-house options to replace Seattle Seahawks OC Kubiak

It appears Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald will be tasked with hiring his third offensive coordinator in as many seasons.
How 2025 Seahawks would stack up historically with Super Bowl win
Multiple reports surfaced Sunday that current Seattle offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is in line to become the Las Vegas Raiders’ next head coach after the Super Bowl, at which point a deal can be finalized. It would no doubt be a loss for the Seahawks, whose offense thrived this season under Kubiak’s direction.
With Kubiak seemingly headed to Las Vegas, who are some potential options to replace him?
During Monday’s Blue 88 segment on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk, former NFL quarterback Brock Huard listed two possible in-house candidates: Seahawks run game specialist/assistant offensive line coach Justin Outten and Seahawks passing game coordinator Jake Peetz.
Both have spent a decade-plus as NFL assistants in a variety of different roles.
“I think you’re going to want somebody with this kind of continuity coming back on offense to stay in the system, and somebody who’s (called plays) in the past,” Huard said.
Outten, who Kubiak hired last offseason, spent 2022 as the Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator. In the wake of head coach Nathaniel Hackett’s firing, Outten served as Denver’s offensive play caller for the final two games of that season. The Broncos averaged 27.5 points and 389 total yards over those two games.
Outten also took over the running back coach duties for the Seahawks in mid-December after Kennedy Polamalu took a leave of absence for personal reasons. Seattle’s run game has since taken off down the stretch.
Peetz has spent the past two seasons as the Seahawks’ passing game coordinator. Prior to that, he was an offensive assistant for the Los Angeles Rams under Sean McVay. He also called plays as LSU’s offensive coordinator in 2021.
Huard also mentioned Seahawks quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, but thinks he’d be the most likely assistant to follow Kubiak and serve as his offensive coordinator in Las Vegas.
Whether the Seahawks ultimately choose to promote from within or hire an outside candidate, Huard is confident the Seahawks’ brass will make the right decision.
“I know they will do all their due diligence,” Huard said. “Honestly, in the end, I have such trust that John and Mike are gonna get this right.”
