Cade Cunningham is a major problem for the Knicks.
Dating back to last season, when the budding rivalry with the Pistons gained some juice, Cunningham has proven to be the Knicks’ kryptonite.
They’ll head to Detroit to face off with Cunningham and Co. on Friday night in their first game back at Little Caesars Arena since falling in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals last spring.
In their one and only matchup so far this season, Cunningham picked up right where he left off in that hard-fought playoff series when he averaged 25 points and 8.7 assists for the upstart Pistons.
During the blowout 121-90 win last month, Cunningham dropped 29 points with 13 assists in only 29 minutes of play time.
As impressive as he was during their playoff run, the first of Cunningham’s career, he was actually even better against the Knicks during the regular season, putting up 30.8 points and 8.3 assists per contest.
I’m sensing a trend.
Cade Cunningham #2 of the Detroit Pistons looks to pass the ball during the game against the Denver Nuggets on February 3, 2026 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
They’re catching a Pistons offense that appears to be hitting its stride, averaging 128.3 points per game over their last three contests heading into the first of a back-to-back against the Wizards on Thursday night.
Cunningham is the engine that drives all of that.
Betting on the NBA?
And after a trade that sent Jaden Ivey to Chicago in exchange for shooters Kevin Huerter and Dario Saric, the MVP contender Cunningham may be relied on more than usual with the roster shake-up.
The Knicks’ improved defense of late may be in for a reality check against one of their toughest individual matchups.
The play: Cade Cunningham Over 34.5 points + assists (-110, FanDuel)
