Prince William and Kate pleasantly surprised diners with an unexpected visit to a luxurious restaurant in the picturesque French Alps. It was here that the couple reportedly enjoyed a getaway at the exclusive Courchevel ski resort, situated in the Tarentaise Valley.

A haven for Michelin-starred eateries, Courchevel, also dubbed the “Saint Tropez of the slopes” and the “ski capital of the world”, is no stranger to celebrities, previously attracting the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, the Beckhams, and Elton John.

Indeed, only last month, the Prince and Princess of Wales were sighted at a lavish mountainside restaurant, prompting fellow diners to snap photographs as the royal couple made their departure.

A staff member told The Mail’s Harriet Kean: “They had a very nice time and were very polite.” Harriet also described the future king and his wife’s appearance in their ski garb as “immaculate”.

It apparently made an impression on one diner in particular, who said: “I couldn’t believe I was having lunch in the same restaurant as Kate and William. They looked adorable in their beanie hats.”

It wouldn’t be the first time that the Wales’ have descended on the French Alps, though, reportedly paying their first visit in 2016, accompanied by their eldest children.

Meanwhile, in what was described by a source as a “Middleton knees-up”, the family, which includes three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, were also said to have taken a skiing trip last year.

In other news, the young Prince George made headlines yesterday when a royal expert claimed that the second in line to the throne was faced with a “daunting” reality as he braces for a “testing year”.

The 12-year-old prince will become a teenager on July 22 and is also set to enter secondary school. In an exclusive chat with the Mirror, royal commentator Jennie Bond said: “Certainly, as a family, the Waleses do have a complicated destiny.

“They can’t pretend that there is total equality between their three children because one of them is going to be the ultimate top dog – the King. And that obviously creates different issues for each child.”

She added: “For George, it must be daunting, but I think William and Catherine are intent on letting him just enjoy his childhood for as long as possible without worrying about the future.”

Jennie said Catherine was an “acknowledged expert” in the area of early years development, noting that she is “the most capable person” to deal with the children and “reassure them of their worth”.

At a reception for the Red Roses held at Windsor Castle, the Princess of Wales shared an anecdote about her children playing rugby at home, humorously admitting that she does “not want to get tackled by George”.

She said: “Rugby is so accessible, Louis is playing touch rugby and it’s such a great game. Actually, they shouldn’t necessarily need to push boys and girls in particular sports too early.

“Obviously, as they get physically stronger – George now, if we play at home, I do not want to get tackled by George – but, up to a certain age, I think it’s great.”
