Ally McCoist in tears at madcap title logic from under fire colleague

Martin Keown caused widespread consternation with a madcap claim about the league leaders

Tickled Ally McCoist went to bat for lampooned radio colleague Martin Keown but stopped short of endorsing the Arsenal icon’s madcap title claim about Arsenal.
The Gunners icon caused widespread consternation on Monday when he claimed the team he adores will be glad to be only six points clear of serial Premier League winners Manchester City – rather than nine if they hadn’t climbed off the canvas to land a knockout blow on Liverpool.
Keown’s claims have been seized upon and now McCoist’s talkSPORT host Jeff Stelling couldn’t help but wonder if the 63-year-old would like to apply the same logic to Rangers who currently sit three points behind title leaders Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
And while McCoist insists he does understand where Keown is coming from, he’ll happily keep things as they are amid the most exciting title race north of the border in recent memory.
He said: “Listen, the problem I’ve got, I kind of know what he means. It’s actually unexplainable, but I can see where he is coming from.
“But the fact of the matter is, six points is not as good as nine. That’s the bottom line, oh dear me, I heard it yesterday and I was howling with laughter.”
