Costly Wardrobe Malfunction Averted By ‘Incredible Save’ In Olympic Ice Dancing

Canadian ice dancers Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier have gone viral after pulling off what social media users are calling an “insane” and “incredible save” to avoid a potentially costly wardrobe malfunction.

Right toward the end of their rhythm dance at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, Poirier’s wrist cuff came loose and caught on Gilles’ tights. Amid the high-energy performance — set to RuPaul’s “Supermodel (You Better Work)” and Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” — Gilles caught the cuff and held onto it until the routine ended, preventing it from falling onto the ice.

Had the cuff dropped, the pair would have lost one point.

That would have dumped them from their bronze-medal position and elevated British rivals Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson into the podium spot.

Gilles and Poirier will return to the ice on Wednesday for the free dance.

The duo previously placed seventh at Beijing 2022 and eighth at PyeongChang 2018. They earned silver at the World Championships in both 2024 and 2025.
