NY man claims $1 million Powerball prize from December drawing

Kevin Mahoney of Manhattan has claimed a $1 million Powerball second prize after matching the first five numbers in the Dec. 17 drawing.
Mahoney matched the winning numbers 25, 33, 53, 62, and 66, missing only the Powerball number 17.
He received a one-time lump sum payment totaling $612,240 after required withholdings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Smokes 4 Less in Newburgh.
New York’s Powerball game generated $327,836,044 in total sales during fiscal year 2024-2025. School districts across the five boroughs received $1,427,185,199 in Lottery Aid to Education funds during the same period.
