Vancouver to Richmond bridge closed overnight after barge strike

Traffic has resumed moving Friday morning on a bridge linking Vancouver to Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport after the operators of a barge struck it from waters below.

The Richmond RCMP says it responded to reports of the crash at the Arthur Laing Bridge shortly after midnight.

Police temporarily closed the bridge in both directions while crews examined the structure.

Later Friday morning, the RCMP announced that the bridge had reopened, but the southbound direction would be reduced to a single lane near midspan.

Mounties did not say how long the southbound disruption would continue. Drivers can expect delays.
