Finding joy in search of the Sault’s tallest snowbank

Real estate agent Rob Trembinski thinks he found the Sault’s tallest residential snowbank
Working as a real estate agent, Rob Trembinski spends a lot of time driving through the neighbourhoods of Sault Ste. Marie.
Recently, while driving through the winter wonderland admiring the many mammoth piles of snow along the roadside, Trembinski put the question to Facebook: “Who has the tallest snowbank in the Sault?”
“We did a quick video and it had like 37,000 views,” said Trembinski on Tuesday, standing in the shadow of the winner of the inaugural contest on Greenfield Drive in the city’s north end.
Working with videographer Jacob Cedolia of First Fruit Films, the pair criss-crossed the city, following down leads sent to them for bigger-than-usual snowbanks, measuring tape in hand.
“He wanted to differentiate himself a bit, so we do videos that are a little more fun,” Cedolia said of his work for Trembinski.
The rules were simple: find the tallest residential snowbank in the city.
“We live here and this is what we’re known for, so we have got to have a little bit of fun with it,” said Trembinski of the snowbank contest.
The winning snowbank was more than 13 feet tall. Trembinski said it has snowed since the measurement was taken and it appears even taller.
“I’m sure there’s bigger ones, but I also need to sell some houses. I can’t be running around town measuring snowbanks all day,” he said.
The winner, who wasn’t home when Trembinski met SooToday in their front yard on Tuesday, will choose from either a $50 Tim Horton’s or Tuomo’s Stubbornly Finnish Food gift card.
“I don’t think that they intentionally went out to set the biggest snow bank record, but they’ll get 50 bucks out of it, anyways,” said Trembinski.
Other finalists were gifted bags of popcorn by Sault-based business Cornucopia Gourmet Popcorn Co.
Trembinski said a video walkthrough of a home for sale will usually garner a few hundred clicks.
“Those videos of the snowbanks all got between 10,000 and 15,000 views,” he said.
In addition to the views, Trembinski said he is recognized more and more often in public as the “guy from Exit Realty who does the snowbank videos.”
“The fun part is they can associate me not just with real estate — I get to show a little bit of personality,” he said of the notoriety.
Trembinski said he is willing to see the contest continue as a tradition in the future.
“I feel like we should definitely make this a yearly thing, especially when we get this much snow, but we’ll see,” he said.
Trembinski’s snowbank videos can be found on his professional Facebook page.
