The wind that was blowing inclement weather into the Las Vegas Valley on Monday was expected to delay flights at Harry Reid International Airport.
A Reid airport representative said Monday there hadn’t been any shutdown or ground stop at the airport, but periodic delays were anticipated through midnight due to high winds.
FlightAware, a worldwide aviation tracking website, reported 443 delays and 15 flight cancellations at Reid International on Monday. Delays include arrivals and departures of 15 minutes or more than their scheduled times.
According to FlightAware, there were 253 delayed arrivals, 32 percent of scheduled flights, and 191 delayed departures, 23 percent. Nine arrivals and six departures were canceled, or 1 percent of the overall activity.
Southwest Airlines, the busiest commercial air carrier at Reid, was the airline most affected by delays, with 250 delayed (47 percent) and seven canceled (1 percent).
FlightAware already was anticipating three delayed arrivals and four delayed departures Tuesday, but there haven’t been any cancellations noted.
One of the expected delays will be the Aer Lingus flight from and to Dublin, Ireland. The other six delays are anticipated on Southwest flights.
The most delayed airports Monday were Chicago’s O’Hare International, Miami International and Denver International, according to FlightAware.
Passengers on departing flights were advised to contact their airlines about potential delays.
