‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Trailer Teases a Cinematic ‘Star Wars’ Adventure

Star Wars fans have been waiting for the first real look at The Mandalorian and Grogu, desperately hoping that the first full trailer for the May release will convince them that this is a movie that deserves to be seen on the big screen. It looks like Jon Favreau has not disappointed.
The Mandalorian and Grogu has previously released a short teaser and a highly divisive Super Bowl spot, which led to many questioning whether this was anything more than The Mandalorian series in a feature-length format. The new trailer has finally opened up the gates on what can be expected of the first Star Wars theatrical release since The Rise of Skywalker. It seems that most are finally impressed with what they are seeing. You can check out the trailer below.
The Mandalorian and Grogu has kept everyone waiting a long time for its first full trailer. A teaser initially unveiled several characters and stars, such as Jeremy Allen White’s Rotta the Hutt and Sigourney Weaver’s New Republic leader. What the teaser held back on was the epic action sequences, new and returning characters, and a general feel that this movie is something special enough to be seen in cinemas.
In recent interviews, director and Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau has promised that the movie is a massive step up from the TV show, and seems to have now delivered a glimpse at why The Mandalorian and Grogu demands the biggest screen this May. He said recently:
“We gotta up our game now for the movie theater, and that means taller aspect ratios for IMAX, building sets that take full advantage of that. We have to notch everything up and then the storytelling as well. We want to take you on an adventure, and that adventure has to fill up the screen and has to be something where people at this moment in time when so much is competing for your attention, that you’re gonna stop what you’re doing and you’re gonna go to a movie theater.”

Back in 1999, The Phantom Menace became the first Star Wars movie to be released in cinemas since Return of the Jedi in 1983. The prequel trilogy of movies that ended with The Revenge of the Sith in 2005 then saw the franchise hibernate for another decade before The Force Awakens did what its title suggested and instigated a huge surge in Star Wars projects. The sequel trilogy proved to be as divisive as the prequel movies, Solo: A Star Wars Story crashed and burned, and only Rogue One shone as a beacon of hope.
Now, six years after The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first of several new theatrical releases which will attempt to put the franchise back on the map as a strong theatrical force to be reckoned with. Next year will see Ryan Gosling lead Starfighter, while a movie continuing the story of Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker seems likely to be the next film to make it to the finish line. Several others, such as one from Taika Waititi, have been in and out of development for months, and still have some way to go to reach screens.
