Winter Olympics 2026: Ning Zhongyan wins men’s 1500m speed skating gold in new Olympic record

Ning Zhongyan has been crowned Milano Cortina 2026 men’s 1500m speed skating champion, after setting a new Olympic record time of 1:41.98.
The skater from the People’s Republic of China beat pre-race favourite Jordan Stolz, as the U.S. athlete finished with silver in 1:42.75. Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands won the bronze (1:42.82).
The race saw four athletes go under the previous Olympic record, including the three podium finishers and Dutch skater Joep Wennemars.
This was the third Olympic medal and first gold for China’s Ning, after he won bronze in the 1000m and team pursuit.
