Eric Dane, actor known for roles on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Euphoria,’ dead at 53

Actor Eric Dane, who played Dr. Mark Sloan on “Grey’s Anatomy” and who also appeared in the HBO show “Euphoria,” died Thursday at the age of 53, his representative said.

In April, the April publicly disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS and Lou Gehrig’s Disease. It’s a fatal disease that affects the nervous system.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” a representative for the actor said.

“He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world,” the rep said.

Dane on April 10 in a statement about his diagnosis to People said that he was “grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

Dane became an advocate for awareness and research into ALS, which has no cure, his representative said.

“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight,” the representative said in the statement.

“He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received,” the representative said. “The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
