Finland’s excellent defense and goaltending got them to this point, but the lack of offense was an absolute killer today. Some it obviously stems from roster construction, and Barkov’s absence, but the decision to go into a defensive shell when up 2-0 crushed them here. As the margins got tighter, and Canada picked up the pace, Finland still didn’t up the pace enough.

They still have a chance at a bronze medal, against the USA or Slovakia, but this strategy could prove costly against either of those opponents.
