Randy Orton faces tough setback before WWE Elimination Chamber

Randy Orton heads into this week’s Elimination Chamber with momentum on paper but far less in reality.
The veteran secured his spot in the match alongside Cody Rhodes and LA Knight, giving fans hope that he might reclaim a major spotlight. Yet the closer the event gets, the clearer it becomes that Orton carries more uncertainty into the Chamber than confidence.
His recent win-loss record tells the story. Since returning to full-time action in early 2025, Orton has picked up only one premium live event victory, a hard-fought result against Joe Hendry at last year’s WrestleMania.
One highlight across an entire year leaves him in a difficult position as he prepares for one of WWE’s most unforgiving matches.
A Tough Climb Back to the Top
The numbers matter because of who Randy is. He built a career on big-match dominance, sharp timing, and the sense that he could change a match with a single opening.
This stretch of setbacks feels like more than a slump. It puts real pressure on him at a time when WWE appears unsure where he fits in the long-term picture. The Chamber was designed to test endurance and resolve, and Orton enters it with both being questioned.
There’s also the shadow of WrestleMania planning. Last year he was slotted for a major bout, only to have the match fall apart moments before it began when his opponent went down with a serious injury. WWE had to adjust on the fly, and he ended up drifting into the background for the rest of the show. Experiences like that create the sense that nothing is guaranteed, even for someone with his résumé.
If Orton delivers inside the Chamber, it could reset everything. A strong showing would remind fans and decision-makers that he still has the presence and precision that once defined his career. It would also give creative teams something solid to build toward in April.
