Canada’s Alphonso Davies exits Bayern Munich match with apparent injury

With the World Cup just around the corner, one of Canada’s top stars went down with an apparent injury on Saturday.

Alphonso Davies was replaced in the 49th minute of Bayern Munich’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt after a challenge from Mahmoud Dahoud.

Davies stayed down on the pitch in visible pain and was tended to by the team’s training staff. He was eventually able to walk off the field and down the tunnel under his own power.

Davies had just recently returned to action for Bayern after suffering a torn ACL while playing for Canada in March.

The 25-year-old came off the bench on Dec. 12 for his first match of the year. He has gotten into 11 contests before Saturday for the Bundesliga’s top club.

Davies scored Canada’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal during the 2022 tournament and figures to lead the side if healthy in 2026. He has 15 goals across 58 career international appearances for Canada.

Canada begins its 2026 World Cup schedule on June 12 and is grouped with Qatar, Switzerland and an undetermined qualifier in Group B.
