British model Abbey Clancy has previously opened up about her marriage to footballing icon Peter Crouch. The couple, who met in 2006, have been married since 2011 and expanded their family with four children in that time. Despite their “rock solid” relationship, the series 11 Strictly Come Dancing winner revealed that they live “separate lives” to pursue their own exploits and shared that this had helped her become a happy wife.

In a 2025 interview, the Liverpudlian beamed with pride as she opened up about sharing every aspect of her life with Peter and insisted that she “doesn’t need space” from the England striker, with whom she also co-hosts the Therapy Couch. In addition to her conversation with OK!, Abbey and Peter shared that their time spent pursuing individual interests is the key to sustaining “a healthy relationship.”

During this podcast episode, the former Britain’s Next Top Model star added: “We live separate lives now. He goes to golf and I go horse riding, and then we meet at the end.”

To which the famed England striker clarified: “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Like, not every day, because we need to do stuff together as well. But I think some part of the week, I think that’s a totally healthy relationship.”

“It is, because I’ve never been happier,” Abbey concluded.

This admission came after the mum-of-four got candid about their marriage troubles and lifted the lid on how their relationship “nearly fell apart.”

The model reflected on when she found out she was pregnant with their fourth child, Jack, and admitted that their marriage was in a bad place after giving birth to their third child, Johnny, earlier that year.

“We hated each other at that point, so I don’t even know how I got pregnant, to be quite honest,” Abbey said on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe’s podcast Lockdown Parenting Hell.

“The pregnancy with our three-year-old, Johnny, was hell, I hated him, and he hated me. So, I don’t know how it happened.”

Abbey, who is also mum to Sophia and Liberty, shared that she and Peter initially planned to be done after three children, and that he was not impressed when she called to tell him she was expecting again.

Recalling the phone call, she told the hosts: “‘If you’re going to say what I think you’re going to say, don’t say it,'” but when he eventually came home, the athlete had “time to think” and realised it was all going to be “okay”.

This rocky period in their marriage also made headlines at the time, as an insider told Heat: “It’s no secret that, within their immediate circle, before Jack came along, everyone thought they were going to split.”

They claimed: “Abbey had hinted that she had spoken about divorce and was ready to walk out. They had become distant from each other and were leading completely separate lives. A marriage like theirs takes a lot of work, and they both felt like they weren’t putting the effort in, and their relationship was no longer their priority. Abbey herself admitted she struggled during her pregnancies, and having small children and busy careers can take its toll.”
