Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts ahead of a blizzard that is set to hit the state Sunday night.
Healey said state agencies and municipalities are working hard to prepare for the winter storm, which is expected to bring up to 2 feet of snow to parts of the state, as well as wind gusts up to 75 mph and flooding along the coast.
The governor urged Massachusetts residents to stay off the roads while the blizzard lasts and urged employers to allow workers to work from or stay home on Monday. Snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches are possible at times, and the most dangerous travel period is expected to be during the late morning on Monday, officials said.
By midday on Sunday, dozens of school district across the state had canceled school on Monday, and the majority of flights set to depart out of Boston Logan Airport had been canceled.
