The Washington Capitals will be without alternate captain Tom Wilson against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night.
Wilson will miss out on the team’s return to play after the Olympic break due to an illness he caught while with Team Canada in Italy. The team announced the news just ahead of the 7 pm puck drop at Capital One Arena.

Wilson played in all six of Canada’s games in Milan, recording four points (1g, 3a). He earned a silver medal after the Canadians fell 2-1 to Team USA in the Gold Medal Game.
The 31-year-old winger is the Capitals’ leading scorer this season with 49 points (23g, 26a) in 50 games. Wednesday’s game will be the 10th this season that Wilson has missed.
With Wilson out of action, Ryan Leonard will take his spot on the club’s second line with Connor McMichael and Pierre-Luc Dubois. Hendrix Lapierre will play on the wing of the fourth line with Nic Dowd and Brandon Duhaime.
