Republicans slammed for skipping Les Wexner testimonypublished at 17:02 GMT
US billionaire Les Wexner, former CEO of Victoria’s Secret lingerie brand, appeared before the House Oversight Committee in a closed-door deposition last week.
Wexner was described as a potential co-conspirator of Epstein’s in a 2019 FBI document, but no charges were ever brought against him. Wexner has denied any wrongdoing in connection to Epstein.
No Republican lawmakers attended Wexner’s deposition, though some of their staff members did attend.
Robert Garcia, the committee’s ranking Democratic member, told reporters on Thursday that he’s glad some Republicans showed up to Hillary Clinton’s testimony today, but he wishes they had been there for Wexner’s.
Another Democratic member of the committee, Suhas Subramanyam, said the fact that Republicans did not show up to Wexner’s testimony but did show up to Clinton’s “underscores to me the partisan nature of what some of the Republicans on our committee and in Congress are doing and the way they’re approaching this investigation”.
