Mancini linked with United job
The Daily Mail reports that Roberto Mancini is confident he is a candidate to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
The former Manchester City boss could be the next to take over at United, and is said to have connections with part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The paper explains: “Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has sensationally claimed that he could be in line to replace Ruben Amorim if he is sacked by Manchester United.
“Amorim has been under pressure after a poor start to the season for the Red Devils, and admitted before their recent win over Sunderland that he was running out of time to save his job if results didn’t improve.
“His comments followed a painful defeat at Brentford, although assurances from Ineos sources suggested that Ratcliffe still backed Amorim and was prepared to let him stay in charge for the rest of the season.
“Mancini, who has been without a managerial job since leaving Saudi Arabia just under a year ago, could be in the running if United do dispense with Amorim.
“The 60-year-old, who has also coached the likes of Inter Milan, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Italy and Galatasaray, is said to have links to Ratcliffe.”
Reds eye midfield replacements
Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo could both leave Manchester United this summer, and as a result the club are looking for midfield replacements.
Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba are all noted as potential candidates.
The Daily Star writes: “With midfield maestro Casemiro set to depart when his contract runs out at season’s end, and Mainoo possibly following suit, United will be on the hunt for fresh midfield talent next summer.
“Three stars are reportedly on United’s radar: Adam Wharton is being touted as a possible recruit after his standout performances for Crystal Palace recently.
“Another hot prospect is Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who’s also on the radar of rivals Manchester City, but United might just swoop in for him in 2026. Anderson made his England debut in early September and turned heads under Thomas Tuchel in his first match.
“Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is another option, a player United had their sights on last summer; however, Brighton’s hefty £100m-plus price tag for the rising star was a bridge too far. Despite this, it seems United will be back at the negotiation table with Brighton come the new year.”
Potter set for new job
Graham Potter could be on course to take over the Sweden national side after they sacked Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Potter was let go by West Ham only weeks ago, but with the former Brighton and Chelsea manager well known in Sweden, he could be given a new role. The Telegraph reports: “Graham Potter is ready to try to rescue Sweden’s bid to qualify for the World Cup by becoming the nation’s new head coach on an initial short-term basis.
“Sources close to the Swedish Football Association have confirmed to Telegraph Sport that Potter is finalising a deal for him to take the head coach job for two games and a possible World Cup play-off.
“It means an immediate return to coaching for Potter less than a month after he was sacked by West Ham United.”
Muscat deal not done yet
Chinese side Shanghai Port are pushing for a heavy payout from Rangers to release Kevin Muscat.
The Australian is wanted at Ibrox after former manager Steven Gerrard turned down the chance of a return.
The Daily Record states: “Shanghai Port will demand mega money to allow Kevin Muscat to leave for Rangers.
“Record Sport revealed Muscat has broadly agreed a deal to replace Russell Martin while in the midst of a three-way battle for the Super League crown.
“However, the final details on a seven-figure compensation package for the manager – who has a contract with the Chinese champions until December 2026 – are still to be finalised before an official announcement.
“Muscat was in the dugout for Port’s dramatic 4-3 win over Qingdao on Friday morning that took the club a step closer to defending their crown.”
