Stars’ Seguin (knee) ruled out for season ahead of trade deadline

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin will not be able to return this season.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, the Stars expect Seguin to be out for the 2025-26 regular season and playoffs, which should give the team salary cap relief heading into next week’s trade deadline. LeBrun adds the league and Players’ Association still needs to sign off on the paperwork.

Seguin had surgery for a torn ACL suffered in December. He last played on Dec. 2.

According to PuckPedia, the Stars have just under $1.4 million in cap space heading into the deadline. However, Seguin carries a $9.85 million cap hit this season, which would give the Stars more room to add ahead of next Friday’s 3 p.m. ET cutoff. However, LeBrun points out that the Stars were already using $3.8 million of his cap hit with other players injured.

Dallas enters play Friday sitting in a playoff spot and third in the Central Division. They are 35-14-9 for 79 points and have won seven games in a row.

Seguin, 34, had seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 27 games prior to being injured this season. He has spent the last 13 seasons of his career with the Stars and is under contract through the end of next season at $9.85 million.
