What Does Olympic Gold Taste Like? Find Out With A New Ice Cream Honoring Alysa Liu

OAKLAND, CA — Ever wonder what Olympic gold tastes like? Now you can find out with a new limited-time ice cream from Fentons Creamery in Oakland honoring Olympic gold medalist and hometown hero Alysa Liu.
An employee at the store confirmed to Patch that the new ice cream features a caramel ice cream with golden oreos in it and a caramel swirl. The ice cream is currently in store now, but only for a limited time. It’s unclear whether the ice cream shop will make the flavor a mainstay.
The landmark ice cream store garnered national attention earlier this month after its owners offered Liu free ice cream for life following her historic win at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
“What started as a heartfelt hometown gesture has turned into something much bigger, and it speaks to how proud this entire community is,” the company said in a post on social media Thursday. “We meant it then, and we mean it now. Ice cream for life. Seriously.”
Liu made history this month when ended Team USA’s gold medal drought in figure skating at the Winter Olympics. Liu won the country’s first gold medal in the sport in more than 20 years.
The 20-year-old Bay Area native has since returned to a hero’s welcome. Proud Fans greeted her at San Francisco International Airport when she arrived home earlier this week.
While dining out following her return, staff at Trabocco in Alameda gifted Liu a cake congratulating her on the Olympics.
Oakland city officials also plan to honor Liu with a community-wide celebration. Details about what the celerbation will entail or when it will take plac are not yet available.
