Russell is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role as Kate Wyler in The Diplomat, while Rhys is up for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for The Beast in Me. The ceremony marks another shared red carpet moment for the longtime partners, who recently stepped out at the Golden Globes.
This year’s Actor Awards also introduce an official red carpet theme for the first time: “Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the ’20s and ’30s.” Developed in collaboration with ELLE—this year’s exclusive fashion partner—the directive draws from the cinematic elegance of early studio-era style, encouraging structured silhouettes, refined tailoring, and modern interpretations of Art Deco glamour.
Russell has long favored understated dressing on the carpet, often opting for classic silhouettes with minimal embellishment. In an October 2025 New Yorker profile, she explained that despite decades in the industry, “my goal isn’t to go to Cannes.” The comment further reflects a pragmatic approach to fame that has defined her public persona, even as her performances—from Felicity to The Americans to The Diplomat—have placed her at the center of the cultural conversation.
Rhys, meanwhile, has embraced a broader range of roles in recent years. Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum about playing Nile Jarvis in The Beast in Me, he said, “I’m not usually considered for parts like this, and I’m desperate to do it because they’re so enjoyable.” The thriller marked a departure from the more restrained characters he has portrayed in the past, and his nomination underscores that shift.
