Mokokchung Athletics to organise ASMITA FIT INDIA event for International Women’s Day

MOKOKCHUNG — Mokokchung Athletics, in collaboration with MY Bharat, will organise the ‘My Bharat–ASMITA FIT INDIA’ sporting event at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on March 7, as part of the nationwide observance of International Women’s Day 2026.
Mokokchung Athletics has invited women and girls across all eligible age categories to participate in the event and be part of this nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening women’s participation in sports and promoting fitness at the grassroots level.
The event is being conducted under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports through the Sports Authority of India and MY Bharat, aligning with the Government of India’s flagship ‘Sports for Women’ initiative, ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women through Action).

According to Mokokchung Athletics, ASMITA, the flagship programme under the ‘Sports for Women’ component of the Khelo India Scheme, aims at promoting women’s participation in sports through grassroots engagement and structured competition.
It added that since its launch in 2021, ASMITA has conducted over 2,500 leagues across the country, engaging more than 2.9 lakh women athletes in 34 sports disciplines, covering all states and union territories and over 600 cities and districts.
The Mokokchung edition of the event aims to celebrate International Women’s Day through sports and physical activity, promote the ASMITA initiative at the grassroots level, encourage mass participation of women and girls in athletics, and create awareness on fitness, health, and sporting culture among women and youth.
The competition will be conducted in the discipline of athletics, featuring track events (100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres) and field events (Shot Put, Long Jump). Participants will compete under the age groups of under 13 years, 13–18 years, and above 18 years.
