Preview: Port Vale (Emirates FA Cup – A)

Bristol City’s attention shifts to the Emirates FA Cup as they travel to Port Vale on Tuesday, March 3rd (7.45pm) in the Fourth Round of the competition.
Away supporters will be able to pay on the night. More than 2,000 supporters are set to make the trip to Vale Park, with tickets available to purchase from turnstile 25 by card only.
Advanced tickets will go off sale at 11am on matchday.
The long-awaited fixture comes more than two weeks later than scheduled after it was originally postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Vale Park.
The winner of Tuesday’s tie will host Premier League side Sunderland on Sunday, March 8th at 1.30pm.
Our Opponents: Port Vale
League One stragglers Port Vale welcome Bristol City to Vale Park amid their relegation battle.
Currently at the bottom of League One, the Valiants are a long way off safety, 10 points from 20th-place Blackpool.
Jon Brady’s side will be hoping the magic of the FA Cup will swing in their favour as they aim to overcome higher-ranked City.
Despite their poor form this season, the hosts are unbeaten in their last three games after beating Northampton Town and drawing with Reading and Luton Town.
Their FA Cup journey has been smoother sailing, comfortably beating Maldon & Tiptree in the First Round, before beating Bristol Rovers and Fleetwood Town 1-0 to see them into the Fourth Round for the first time since 2013/14.
Coincidentally, the Vale’s win over the Cod Army was Brady’s first game in charge after he was appointed on an 18-month contract, replacing Darren Moore.

ONE TO WATCH: BEN WAINE
New Zealand-born Ben Waine began his career at the academy at Wellington Phoenix, initially for the reserve side before progressing into first-team football.
In 2022, Waine joined the then League One leaders, Plymouth Argyle, on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
The forward made nine League One appearances, scoring one goal and scored twice in 33 Sky Bet Championship appearances for the Pilgrims.
Whilst at the Devon side, Waine enjoyed a loan spell at Mansfield Town and returned to Home Park before joining Port Vale.
The Kiwi has been at Vale Park since June 2025 and has since made 24 appearances and scored six goals, crucially bagging the equaliser most recently against Luton Town.
Internationally, Waine has represented New Zealand as a youngster, including the 2019 Under-20 FIFA World Cup, where he also scored twice against Honduras.
Having successfully progressed through the age groups, Waine has competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, where he helped his side to the quarter finals and also the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
To date, Waine has scored eight goals in 28 appearances for the All Whites.
