Rangers title hero in brutally honest Covid admission as he airs Steven Gerrard’s massive claim about 55

Upfront Kemar Roofe admits he wished punters were able to witness Rangers stars savouring their undefeated season during the Covid-affected 2020/21 campaign

Roofe’s only goals against Celtic both came during a 4-1 Ibrox romp after the title had been won in May 2021 – with no fans in attendance.

The former Leeds United man wishes fans had been inside the ground to see it.

But nothing will take away from his greatest ever achievement in football.

Roofe said: “I’d rather score those goals than not have scored at all.

“I wish the fans had been there to celebrate but that title is a career highlight.

“When I went to Rangers, I wanted to win the Europa League. Steven Gerrard said, ‘No, it’s more important to win the league.’

“It’s vital that you’re winning domestically so the other side don’t win.”

Meanwhile, Ally McCoist may have been commentating but Kemar Roofe couldn’t hear what the Rangers legend was saying.

Roofe was desperate to listen to the Ibrox icon’s analysis on a recording of an Old Firm battle he’d just played a big part in.

Yet try as he might, he couldn’t make out a word.

Why? Because the atmosphere inside Ibrox was drowning out anything McCoist was saying.

According to Roofe, nothing sums up the scale of the fixture better.

He said: “I can’t remember the game but when I watched it back on Sky, I couldn’t hear the commentators speaking.

“I like watching games back. Depending on who’s commentating, I like to hear their opinion of the game.

“Ally McCoist was the commentator. When he speaks, I listen to him.

“I watched the game back and kept turning the volume up on my TV but couldn’t hear what he said.

“Then I realised it’s because the fans were so loud – they were drowning out what the commentators were saying. They’ve got the microphone and the comms, so you wouldn’t think it would affect them.”
