Big Change To Planned WWE Championship Match At WrestleMania 42

WWE

A big change has been made to the planned direction for the Undisputed WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 42.

The world title main event plans at WrestleMania have had several revisions over the past few weeks, caused by both injuries and creative decisions.

The latest plans that seemed to be settled were CM Punk vs Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship, and Drew McIntyre vs Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Title.

However, that no longer looks to be the case.

A new report from PWInsider Elite states the current direction planned for the WWE Title is a match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.

Orton won the men’s Elimination Chamber match this past Saturday, which, as things stand, means he is set to challenge current champion Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania.

However, McIntyre will put his title on the line against Rhodes on SmackDown this Friday, and the expectation right now within WWE is that Rhodes will win that match and enter Mania as champion to defend against Orton.

Why WWE Changed Plans To Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton At WrestleMania 42

One source said this decision “was not a shot at Drew McIntyre’s work,” but the company has simply opted to deliver Rhodes vs Orton this year, and felt Orton winning the Chamber would be a “nice surprise” to ramp up excitement on the way to Mania.

There was no concrete word on where that would leave McIntyre for the Mania card, but it was noted that plans can always still change, as they have been doing for the past few weeks.

Potential options for McIntyre at Mania include a match against Jacob Fatu or possibly even a match against SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis.
