‘The Boys’ Trailer: Homelander Chases Immorality as ‘Gen V’ Stars Pop Up for Fifth and Final Season

The boys are back for their fifth and final season.

Thursday, Prime Video dropped the official trailer for the upcoming season of The Boys. In the new teaser, Homelander (Antony Starr) is chasing immortality through the use of V-One, the first reiteration of Compound-V, the serum which produces supes.

The trailer also confirms that Gen V stars Jaz Sinclair and London Thor will be featured in the upcoming installment, when the two are spotted chatting with Erin Moriarty’s Annie January/Starlight. Elsewhere, Homelander turns to his biological father, Solider Boy (Jensen Ackles), for assistance as Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher is still grappling with his newfound supe powers from a cancerous tumor that arose following his taking a temporary dosage of Compound-V.

And to close out the trailer, Homelander sits in the oval office with an eery grin on his face. (Watch the full trailer below.)

Season five of The Boys will hit the streamer on April 8, with two episodes, with new episodes rolling out weekly until the series finale on May 20.

The logline for season five reads, “In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’ Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it.  It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”

After it was announced season five would be the last season of the superhero drama, Kripke told The Hollywood Reporter he always knew he “wanted to wrap it out around season five.” However, the franchise itself is far from over as The Boys expanded with the spinoff series Gen V in 2023, which spotlights a group of young supes attending a superhero-only college.

Prime Video also announced in July it ordered a prequel series, entitled Vought Rising, that will center in on supes Soldier Boy and Stormfront (played by Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, respectively).

The Boys is an adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic of the same name, who both serve as executive producers. The series is developed by EP and showrunner Eric Kripke, with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Judalina Neira, Jessica Chou, Gabriel Garcia, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin and Jason Netter also serving as EPs.

The Boys is produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film and Point Grey Pictures.
