Road Dogg Out At WWE Amid Creative Shakeup

A major backstage change may have just hit WWE’s creative team, as a new report claims Brian “Road Dogg” James has departed the company.

The longtime WWE figure has been involved with the company in multiple roles for years, most recently serving as a key creative voice and co-lead writer for SmackDown. However, according to Bodyslam.net, WWE is currently going through internal changes within its writing staff — and Road Dogg’s exit is part of that shift. The outlet reported that sources within the company have indicated that James is no longer with WWE. The report went on to directly address Road Dogg’s status after more than a decade working behind the scenes.

“WWE is in the midst of some shakeups in creative and on their writing team.”

“Sources indicate to Bodyslam that Brian ‘Road Dogg’ James has departed WWE. Road Dogg has been with WWE since 2014 and was the co-lead writer for SmackDown over the last year.”

The report comes shortly after another notable development within WWE’s writing staff. Alexandra Williams recently announced on LinkedIn that she has been promoted to Vice President and Lead Writer for Monday Night RAW after previously serving as a senior writer and producer. Sharing the news publicly, Williams confirmed the change in her role.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Vice President/Lead Writer at WWE!”

Her updated description explained the scope of the role, which places her in charge of overseeing creative development for WWE’s flagship weekly program.

“As VP and Lead Writer for WWE’s flagship live program, I oversee all creative development for Monday Night RAW — one of cable television’s longest-running and highest-rated weekly shows.”

Road Dogg has held several roles during his run with the company since returning in 2014. In addition to working as a producer and executive within WWE’s creative department, he became closely associated with SmackDown’s writing team during different eras of the show’s development.

His most recent role placed him directly in the middle of SmackDown’s weekly creative direction as the brand navigated major changes, including its expanded three-hour format on the USA Network.

While WWE has not publicly commented on the report, the move would mark a notable shift in the company’s creative leadership if confirmed. The departure also comes during a period where WWE continues refining its internal structure under Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s leadership.

For now, the report suggests that WWE’s writing team could be going through additional adjustments behind the scenes as the company moves forward with new programming strategies.

What do you think about the report that Road Dogg has left WWE’s creative team and the new RAW leadership structure? Do you think these changes could impact WWE’s television direction moving forward? Let us know your thoughts and leave your feedback.
