Burgess Remains at Borough

Since making the switch to the opposite side of Sussex, Burgess has made a notable impact at the Connect Management Stadium.
After joining at the start of February, the 22-year-old’s debut was delayed by the postponement of Eastbourne’s match away to Chesham. However, after making his first appearance in the 3-1 victory over Maidstone, the energetic midfielder has started all six matches for the Sports, completing the full 90 minutes in four of those outings.
Alongside his consistent availability, the former AFC Bournemouth academy prospect has netted vital goals. He struck deep into stoppage-time to secure a memorable 4-2 home win over Torquay United a fortnight ago before dispatching the opener in Eastbourne’s crucial 2-1 triumph away to Hampton & Richmond Borough last weekend.
That made it three appearances on the spin with a goal involvement, as he was credited with the assist to George Alexander’s goal in the defeat to league leaders Dorking Wanderers.
Burgess’ performances have resulted in Borough seeking an extension of his loan spell until the end of the campaign, as they look to survive the drop from the National League South. As things stand, they are three points from safety, having played a few matches more than their close competitors.
Good luck, Matty!
