The Ottawa Senators added Warren Foegele to their group in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings earlier today, per sources to The Athletic.
He’ll be a welcome addition for a few reasons. Despite his statistics and injury trouble this year, he has a history as a secondary scorer and can kill penalties. That last attribute is necessary for a group that has struggled with killing penalties this season. Ottawa’s management team also loves adding players with playoff experience, and Foegele has that having helped the Edmonton Oilers reach the Cup final in recent years bolting to the Kings.
Ideally, you can put Foegele on a line with Shane Pinto and Michael Amadio, and solidify your checking line. While bumping down Nick Cousins to their fourth line. And now, the Senators have a handful of bottom-six forwards between Cousins, David Perron, Fabian Zetterlund, Stephen Halliday, and Lars Eller. With players being moved at these high prices (a second-round pick is going to Los Angeles in exchange, reportedly), the Senators could always move one of these players for picks or a right-shot defenceman, if they wanted to add to that group.
