Nemec still on the table
The New Jersey Devils are continuing to listen on 2022 second-overall pick Simon Nemec as the deadline draws closer.
Nemec is in need of a new deal this summer, but TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports the Devils will only move him for the right package of a young top-six forward who will impact their current group.
Devils continue to listen on Simon Nemec, who needs a new contract this off-season. New Jersey would only move him in the right package for a top 6 young forward that impacts the group.

The 22-year-old has nine goals and 21 points in 48 games with the Devils this season.
The Devils are on track to miss the playoffs this season, sitting nine points back of the Boston Bruins for the final wild-card spot.
Kadri, Trocheck headline centres to watch
As the deadline draws closer, two centres sit atop the TSN Trade Bait board in Vincent Trocheck of the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames veteran Nazem Kadri. It does not appear a trade is guaranteed for either, though.
The Rangers have set a high price tag on Trocheck, who remains signed through 2028-29, while the Flames are being asked to retain salary on Kadri and are not comfortable doing so.
“(Trocheck is) one of the big prizes of the day, and it’s kind of an interesting file because all along we’ve sort of thought the Minnesota Wild were the favourite team to keep an eye on here,” TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston updated late Thursday night.
“As we start this day on Friday, they’ve sort of stepped back because the ask is just beyond what Wild general manager Bill Guerin is comfortable paying.
“But there is a considerable amount of other teams around this. I look at the Carolina Hurricanes, the Detroit Red Wings have certainly checked in on Trocheck, I’m even told the Boston Bruins are among the teams that are at least hanging around here.
“It’s not yet clear who’s going to step up and pay the price – I tried to get the exact price and all I got back was “A lot more than the Leafs got for Nicolas Roy,” which was a first- and a fifth-round pick.
“So the offer’s a lot more than that. He could be, when the dust settles, the biggest trade that’s made on deadline day.”
TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports the Colorado Avalanche remain interested in Kadri despite adding Nicolas Roy from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
Kadri remains signed at a $7 million cap hit through 2028-29, with his contract currently proving difficult to move.
“Well Calgary’s organization just doesn’t feel comfortable retaining – or at least retaining a good chunk of his salary. It’s going to be interesting to see how that trade interest continues to develop around this veteran forward,” Dreger explained.
“He’s a good team guy, he’s a pro, I’m telling you he will be deeply disappointed if he’s with the Flames after the trade deadline.
“There’s some work to do there for Flames general manager Craig Conroy. Tons of interest in Blake Coleman, tons of interest in Zach Whitecloud, but right now, Kadri appears to be a tougher sell.”
Kadri, 35, has 12 goals and 41 points in 61 games this season after posting a career-high 35 goals last season.
Trocheck, 32, has 12 goals and 39 points in 46 games while carrying a cap hit of $5.625 million under his contract.
Deadline Day has arrived
Trade deadline day is here after two days filled with activity on the market, but several top names still remain available as the clock counts down towards 3pm ET.
Thursday brought a flurry of activity, including the Buffalo Sabres at long last making additions to their roster after being unable to reach two separate deals with the St. Louis Blues. After being unwilling to meet the Blues’ asking price on Robert Thomas, the two teams reached a trade to send Colton Parayko to Buffalo but he declined to waive his no-trade clause to complete it. The Sabres were prepared to send 2025 first-round pick Radim Mrkta and a first-round pick to the Blues in the deal.
The Sabres, who are closing on making the playoffs for the first time since 2011, bolstered both their offence and defence on Thursday night. The Sabres added blueliners Luke Schenn and Logan Stanley from the Winnipeg Jets, sending Jacob Bryson, Isak Rosen, and second- and fourth-round picks back in the deal. The Sabres also acquired forward Sam Carrick from the New York Rangers for third- and sixth-round picks.
The Anaheim Ducks pulled off one of the biggest trades of the day in the last move of the day, adding veteran John Carlson from the Washington Capitals for a conditional first-round pick and a 2027 third-rounder. TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports the trade came together so late that Carlson only found out Friday morning.
Carlson was one of two players to move for a first-round pick on Thursday, with the Toronto Maple Leafs getting a top pick from the Colorado Avalanche for Nicolas Roy.
The biggest deal in terms of term remaining came in the Columbus Blue Jackets adding Conor Garland from the Vancouver Canucks ahead of him starting the six-year, $36 million contract extension he signed on July 1. The Canucks received second- and third-round picks back in that deal.
LeBrun notes the Capitals were in on Garland and will still try to add to their roster today despite moving Carlson and Nic Dowd on Thursday.
The trade happened so late that John Carlson was asleep and didn’t find out until this morning. Tough trade for the Caps obviously, but their play since the break forced them to be realistic (Dowd trade as well). Having said that, they tried on Connor Garland and will try to add…

The Utah Mammoth are a team to watch as we switch to Friday after the team started their buying by picking up MacKenzie Weegar from the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. The Mammoth have been attached to Thomas and still have plenty in the cupboard are not moving any of their top-five prospects in the Weegar deal and still hold their first-round picks in each of the next two seasons.
The Maple Leafs and Canucks are among the clear sellers with moves still to make before the deadline. The Maple Leafs have two key pending unrestricted free agents likely to be moved in Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton, while Evander Kane’s time with the Canucks is expected to come to an end before the day is done.
Both Vancouver and Toronto could also dive deeper into their roster if the right offers arrive. Defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson sat out the last two games for the Maple Leafs for roster management.
