Raptors 905 claim former No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz off waivers

Veteran guard Markelle Fultz has been claimed by the G League’s Raptors 905 off waivers, the team announced on Friday.

Fultz, the first overall selection in 2017, brings 255 games of NBA experience to the 905, based out of Mississauga, Ont. He holds career averages of 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.1 steals through eight seasons split between the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and Sacramento Kings.

The 27-year-old spent 2024-25 in Sacramento, averaging 2.9 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists through 21 games. He has yet to play an NBA or G League game this season.

Fultz now joins a Raptors 905 team in need of reinforcements after three players — Julian Reese, Olivier Sarr and David Roddy — were called up earlier in the week amid three consecutive losses and four of their last five.

The 905 currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 16-11 record.

While there’s no telling if Fultz could make his way to the Raptors, who are looking for “backcourt help” per Sportsnet’s Michael Grange, Toronto has one open roster spot remaining that they could look to fill in the coming weeks.

As for the Raptors 905, they’ll return to action on Friday, visiting the Greensboro Swarm, and will have the NBA Raptors’ recently-acquired Trayce Jackson-Davis in the lineup, the team also announced. Toronto traded for the third-year forward at last month’s deadline in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick.
