Boy, 11, shoots mother’s boyfriend during domestic dispute in Southwest Philadelphia, police say

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police say an 11-year-old boy shot and killed his mother’s boyfriend in Southwest Philadelphia after witnessing a fight between the couple.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of South Peach Street around 11:40 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the incident began as an argument between a woman and her 30-year-old boyfriend, identified by investigators as Jaimeer Jones-Walker.

Sources said the disagreement involved visitation of the couple’s newborn, who was in the hospital.

According to police, the argument moved inside the home to a second-floor back bedroom, where it turned physical.

Investigators said the woman’s 11-year-old son took his mother’s gun and shot Jones-Walker.

“He was unresponsive. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to his face,” Philadelphia police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Police said Jones-Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the mother and her son remained on the scene and were taken to Philadelphia Police headquarters to be interviewed by homicide detectives.

“Also on the second floor in another room, we did find a semiautomatic handgun. We believe that was the weapon that was used to fire the shot,” Small said.

Police said the gun was registered to the mother. Investigators are also looking into a Tesla that was double-parked on the street, which police said was driven by Jones-Walker.

Sources in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office said the case is still an active investigation. The DA has not announced any charges at this point.
