Mother and daughter Jodie and Lexi Owens found dead in their car after tornadic storm hits Major County, Oklahoma

MAJOR CO., Okla. — Authorities say a mother and her teenage daughter were found dead inside their car after tornadic storms hit Major County on Thursday.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials told affiliate KOCO that a woman was driving in the area of Highway 60 and County Road 2435 near Fairview around 10 p.m. Thursday.

The woman was on the phone with someone when she lost connection with that person, and she was reported missing shortly afterward.

Troopers found her car and the woman and her child dead inside. Investigators said the damage to her car appeared to be from a tornado, but they are working to confirm that’s what caused their deaths.

They victims were identified as Jodie Owens and her daughter, Lexi.

Gov. Kevin Stitt released a statement, saying he is praying for the victims’ family.
