Greatest T20 World Cup finals of all time

India will face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The two sides haven’t been flawless in the tournament, but both are peaking just at the right time.
India delivered a batting masterclass against England on Thursday to win the semi-final clash by seven runs.
Meanwhile, New Zealand sealed their place by crushing tournament favourites South Africa by nine wickets after Finn Allen’s sensational century.
Before the high-stakes encounter in Ahmedabad, we take a look at three of the greatest T20 World Cup finals of all time
India vs Pakistan – 2007 T20 World Cup final
This one ranks among the best Pakistan vs India cricket matches of all time.
Batting first, the Men in Blue put 157 runs on the board with Gautam Gambhir hitting 75 off 54.
The Green Shirts made a poor start to the chase, but Misbah-ul-Haq kept his side in the hunt.
Pakistan needed 13 in the final over, and Misbah hit a maximum to bring the equation down to six off four.
But with victory in sight, the right-hander went for the scoop and lost his wicket, handing India a five-run victory.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka – 2009 T20 World Cup final
Losing to India in the 2009 final was heartbreaking for Pakistani supporters.
However, the Green Shirts buried the ghosts of that loss two years later at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Pakistan set up a final clash with Sri Lanka after edging South Africa by seven runs in the last four.
They restricted the Lions to 138 in the allotted 20 overs, thanks to Abdul Razzaq’s brilliant bowling spell.
Shahid Afridi played a blistering 54-run knock as Pakistan chased down the total in the 19th over, winning their first T20 World Cup trophy.
West Indies vs England – 2016 T20 World Cup final
West Indies and England played out the most thrilling T20 World Cup final in 2016.
The Three Lions were put into bat first at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and they scored 155/9 in 20 overs.
Joe Root contributed the most to the total, hitting 54 off 36.
In reply, Marlon Samuels held the innings together while wickets tumbled around him.
In the final over, the Windies still needed 19 off six deliveries, and that’s when Carlos Brathwaite stepped up to provide one of the most iconic moments in the history of the T20 World Cup.
Brathwaite smacked four majestic sixes off Ben Stokes to win the final with two balls remaining.
