Red Sox Get Clear Update On Isaac Paredes Interest Amid Romy Gonzalez Injury

The Boston Red Sox aren’t any closer to acquiring Isaac Paredes from the Houston Astros despite the injury to Romy Gonzalez.

Boston has been linked to Paredes in a trade all offseason, but no deal has been reached. However, with just a few weeks to go until Opening Day, Boston was hit with injury news as Gonzalez could need surgery, which could mean he misses the first half of the season.

Yet, despite the injury news to the utility player, Red Sox insider Rod Bradford said Boston still has no momentum on a potential trade for Paredes.

“From what I understand, no momentum on Isaac Paredes. Zero, zero, zero,” Bradford said on WEEI on Sunday.

Paredes is owed $9.35 million this season with a club option for $13.35 million deal for 2027. The third baseman is reportedly on the market as Houston has a surplus of infielders, but after Boston traded for Caleb Durbin, the need for Paredes is no longer there, even with the injury to Gonzalez.

Paredes is a two-time MLB All-Star and hit .254 with 20 home runs and 53 RBIs last season with the Astros.

With the Red Sox not gaining any momentum for a Paredes trade, if Gonzalez is going to miss time, Boston will replace him in-house.

The Red Sox will open their 2026 season on March 26 against the Cincinnati Reds.
