Kitchener’s GRCI under lockdown as ‘safety precaution’

One Kitchener high-school is now under lockdown as Waterloo regional police respond to a weapon-related call in that city.
It was just before 10 a.m. when police shared news of that ongoing investigation, driving an increased police presence to the area of Indian Road and Heritage Drive.
The service said that nearby Grand River Collegiate Institute (GRCI) has been place into lockdown “as a safety precaution.”

While details are limited, a message shared by the Waterloo Region District School Board reminds parents, families and caregivers of students at the school to not attempt to contact the school during lockdown, emphasizing that “staff’s main priority is to keep students safe.”
