Fido Launches 5G Wireless Plans with Speeds Up to 1 Gbps

Rogers-owned Fido has launched 5G wireless plans across the board today. The company’s website has been updated to now say, “Live life in the fast lane with our new 5G plans.”
The plans below are all at 5G speeds (up to 1Gbps) after autopay discounts and 10 to 20GB data bonuses:
- $35/20GB
- $40/80GB (was 60GB)
- $49/80GB (was 60GB) Canada-US-Mexico
- $55/100GB
The Rogers flanker brand says it is updating its coverage maps to show 5G soon.
“We’re proud to bring fast and reliable 5G access to our Fido customers,” said Anne Martin‑Vachon, President of Wireless, Rogers, in a statement. “This rollout provides Canada-wide connectivity our customers can count on at no extra cost.”
Existing 4G customers will get a free upgrade to 5G by March 18. New customers will have 5G access right away. Basic plans or Wireless Home Phone do not get 5G access.
“Fido is all about keeping wireless service simple, affordable and easy to feel confident about. Expanding 5G access at no additional cost allows more customers to benefit from a fast and reliable network with no extra steps,” added Vachon.
Fido says its 5G wireless speeds are at up to 1 Gbps, which is faster than Koodo’s 5G speeds which are up to 250 Mbps. Virgin Plus wireless speeds are at up to 150 Mbps. Now, we’re not sure how many customers value 5G speeds, but instead would rather see plans with international roaming bundled in like we’re seeing from Freedom Mobile.
