Lakers’ Luka Doncic fined $50K for inappropriate gesture toward referee

Luka Doncic’s frequent frustration toward referees is coming back to bite him.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has been fined $50,000 for directing an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture toward a game official, the NBA announced Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the third quarter of Sunday’s 110-97 win over the New York Knicks.

Doncic was called for a blocking foul at the 4:35 mark in the frame after being knocked over by Knicks forward Mohamed Diawara in transition. After falling to the floor, Doncic looked over at the referee on the baseline and made a “money” gesture by rubbing his fingers together.

Doncic went on to score next for the Lakers and finished with a game-high 35 points, adding eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Despite a productive first full season with the Lakers, Doncic has been hit with a handful of fines and has the second-most technical fouls in the NBA this season (15) behind only Phoenix Suns wing Dillon Brooks (16).

The 27-year-old has racked up a total of $95,000 in fines this season.
