Valizadeh Claims Iran’s First Gold at Asian Wrestling Championships

WANA (Apr 11) – Milad Valizadeh, Iran’s freestyle wrestler in the 57kg category, delivered a dominant performance to secure the country’s first gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships.
The finals and classification rounds for the first five weight classes were held on Saturday afternoon in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Valizadeh, who received a bye in the opening round, began his campaign with an emphatic 10–0 victory over India’s Ankush in just over a minute. He continued his impressive run in the semifinals, defeating Japan’s Sasaki 11–0 to advance to the final.
In the gold medal bout, Valizadeh faced a wrestler from Mongolia and sealed the title with a commanding 14–3 win, completing a flawless path to the championship.
Following his victory, Valizadeh took a lap of honor carrying Iran’s national flag.
Later in the competition, Sina Khalili is set to compete in the bronze medal match, while Amirali Azarpira will take to the mat in the final of his weight class.
