Southbound I-15 in Draper shut down due to officer-involved incident

DRAPER, Utah — All southbound lanes of Interstate 15 in Draper were shut down Tuesday afternoon after a police officer shot a person during a traffic stop.

The Utah Highway Patrol reported that there was an “officer-involved critical incident” on I-15 just south of Bangerter Highway but did not have any further details.

Another source then told FOX 13 News that a Riverton police officer made a traffic stop, which led to shots being fired and the individual hit by gunfire.

The person who was shot was not an officer. They were taken to a local hospital via medical helicopter.

Video from UDOT traffic cams shows approximately 15 emergency vehicles, including police cars, stopped on the freeway south of the Bangerter Highway ramp.

Starting around 4:30 p.m., all southbound traffic was diverted onto the Bangerter exit and returning onto I-15 at 14600 South. Around 6 p.m., some southbound lanes were reopened.
